Weed and Seed Brochure

The Weed & Seed Job Training Program is sponsored by the city of Grand Prairie. It is a job training program- not an employment program.

Participants in the program are NOT employees of the City of Grand Prairie. They are participants in a Job Training Program that offers the following:

  • Needs Assessments
  • 3 levels of paid job training for eligible participants
  • Referrals to services that can help you become work ready
  • Positive letters of recommendation for employers

Three Levels of Job Training

Level 1- 8.50 per hour

Participants earn 8.50 an hour while training in a rotation with other participants. It may take several weeks to complete Level 1 of the program, which includes a maximum of 48 hours.

Level 2 - $10 per hour

Part 1 is one month of Solid Waste training as part of an independent work crew that picks up litter citywide.

Part 2 is up to three months training with Animal Services at our Prairie Paws Animal Adoption Center.

Level 3 - $11.60 per hour

Level 3 participants train for up to three months as a Crew Leader, learning how to effectively manage and lead a crew of three Level 2 participants. Level 3 participants must have a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Participation is open to men and women 18 years and older.
Grand Prairie residence is not required.

While in the program, participants are required to continue searching for employment and attend the bi-monthly STARS meetings.
