The City of Grand Prairie will hold two public hearings on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by 2.31 percent (percentage by which proposed tax rate exceeds lower of rollback tax rate or effective tax calculated under Chapter 26, Tax Code). The first public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2013, at City Council Chambers, 317 College St., Grand Prairie, TX 75050.

The second public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2013, at City Council Chambers, 317 College St., Grand Prairie, TX 75050.

The average taxable value of a residence homestead in the City of Grand Prairie last year was $117,572. Based on last year’s tax rate of $0.669998 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed last year on the average home was $787.73.

The average taxable value of a residence homestead in the City of Grand Prairie this year is $118,511. If the governing body adopts the effective tax rate for this year of $0.654841 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $776.06.

If the governing body adopts the proposed tax rate $0.669998 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $794.02.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the hearings and express their views.
