The Grand Prairie Police Department offers a free Teen Police Academy one week each summer for Middle School kids ages 13-14 (7th and 8th graders) who may be interested in learning more about a career in law enforcement and how the police department functions.
The Teen Police Academy meets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 16-20, 2014, at the Charles V. England Public Safety Training Center, 310 College St. Registration is open from April 14 through May 12.
How to Apply
Please print an application, fill it out and return to any School Resource Officer (SRO). Class size is limited to 30 participants. Get your applications in early. You can also request an application by email at Dgriesin@gptx.org

Applicants must have successfully completed the 6th grade and pass a background check, including school discipline referrals.
Some of the topics to be covered in the academy include:
- History of Law Enforcement
- Patrol Procedures
- Crime Scene Investigation
- K-9 and SWAT
Participants will be able to put what they learn into action by working a mock crime scene and using their new skills and knowledge to solve the crime.
