RAILROAD TRACK RECONSTRUCTION CLOSES GRAND PRAIRIE CROSSINGS
GRAND PRAIRIE--Union Pacific is in the process of replacing railroad tracks from Fort Worth to Dallas. Construction on the Grand Prairie portion of the railroad is expected to begin on Monday, Jan. 21. During the track replacement process, approximately 6-8 miles of track will be closed at one time.
An 8-mile-long Union Pacific Track Renewal Train will pick up existing rail, ties and materials and lay down new track, concrete ties and improve rail crossings. The train will be accompanied by a 200-man work crew that will help complete the track reconstruction process.
Railroad crossings will have to be closed for the construction. The first set of rail crossing closures will be:
• Great Southwest crossing closed Jan. 21-Feb. 4
• NW 19th crossing closed Jan. 22-Feb. 4
• NW 23 crossing closed Jan. 22-Feb. 4
Once these crossings have opened, the NW 2nd, Center Street, 8th St. and 9th St., NE 14th
St. and Bagdad Road crossings will be closed. Each rail crossing will be closed a minimum of 3-6 days. Detour routes in Grand Prairie will be State Highway 360 frontage roads, State Highway 161, Carrier Parkway, Belt Line Road and the east Main Street underpass.
