Grand Prairie PD Invites Residents to Use 'Nextdoor'
Posted Date: 2/23/2013

NEWS RELEASE CONTACT: Lyle Gensler, Public Information Office, 972-237-8851

The Grand Prairie Police Department announced that it is using Nextdoor, the first private network for neighborhoods, to foster better neighbor-to-neighbor and citywide communication.

Over the past two months, Grand Prairie PD has discovered this social networking site to be a great resource to disseminate information to targeted neighborhoods throughout the city.
Effective immediately, all Grand Prairie residents can use Nextdoor to create private websites for their neighborhoods where they can get to know their neighbors, ask questions, and exchange local advice and recommendations. Nextdoor never shares personal information with any third parties and cannot be accessed by those outside the neighborhood.

Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit and enter their address. If Nextdoor is available in their area, they can immediately sign up. If a Nextdoor website has not been established for their area, active and engaged neighbors are invited to apply to bring Nextdoor to their community.

The Nextdoor website information is kept confidential only to those who live in the neighborhood and have a verified address. Nextdoor is NOT the appropriate way to request police services, report criminal or suspicious activity or file a report. If you need emergency assistance, please call 911.

Grand Prairie PD already has examples of the effectiveness of Nextdoor and plans to continue to utilize this site toward its Community Policing efforts of building stronger and safer neighborhoods throughout the city.
