Tire Amnesty Day: Free Tire Recycling at Landfill April 25
Posted Date: 4/22/2014

In the spirit of Earth Week April 21-25, Grand Prairie is conducting a citywide cleanup of illegally dumped tires, which will be recycled thanks to a grant from the nonprofit organization Bluebonnet Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D). In addition, the city offers residents the chance to turn in their own tires – free of charge – during “Tire Amnesty Day” on Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Grand Prairie Landfill. The Landfill, 1102 MacArthur Blvd., will waive the usual recycling fee for up to 10 tires per resident 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on April 25. Recycling is the only environmentally responsible way to dispose of tires.

"Piles of tires can be a public health threat as a breeding ground for mosquitoes, as well as dangerous to the environment if piles of tires catch on fire," said Patricia Redfearn, City of Grand Prairie Solid Waste Manager.

Bluebonnet RC&D, a non-profit organization, performs Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEP) within a 10 county area in Texas with funds from entities that received fines to resolve a legal enforcement action undertaken by the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
