Grand Prairie a Possible Location for Temporary Shelter for Unaccompanied Children
Posted Date: 7/25/2014

UPDATE (7/31/14):
On Thursday, July 31, 2014, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins announced that no Dallas County sites would be needed for housing unaccompanied minors who have entered the United States illegally due to a lessening need. Questions and comments should be directed to Judge Jenkins office.

Original Post 7/7/14:

The City of Grand Prairie has been informed that one of our schools, the old Lamar Alternative Education Center, is on the short list to be considered as a temporary shelter for some of the unaccompanied children that have crossed the border into Texas. If used, the city will make sure the facility will be brought to proper standards for this purpose.

This was not initiated by the city. This is an issue being handled by the federal government, Dallas County and the Grand Prairie Independent School District.
