The city of Grand Prairie recognizes that vacations contribute to the well-being and morale of its employees. Therefore, it is the policy of the city to provide annual paid vacation leave benefits to all full time employees.

The policy applies to all full-time employees, not including part-time, seasonal, temporary or contract employees without benefits.
Sick Leave
Sick leave is an important benefit to help employees who are unable to work due to sickness. All full-time employees will accrue 4.37 hours sick leave per paycheck with unlimited accrual (26 paychecks per year).
Regular part-time employees scheduled to work 20 hours per week will accrue 2 hours and 19 minutes per pay check.
Firefighter 24-hour shift personnel will accrue 6 hours and 55 minutes per pay check.
Bereavement Leave and Special Leave
The city of Grand Prairie offers paid bereavement leave and special leave not chargeable to sick leave or vacation
Bereavement leave with pay may be granted at the discretion of the Department Manager for a death or to attend a funeral of an immediate family member.
Special leave of absence with pay may be granted upon approval of the Division or Department Manager for the amount of time required to:

Make a blood donation.

Take an examination administered by the city of Grand Prairie.

Take a physical examination required by the city of Grand Prairie.

Vote in city, state, national or special elections.
