Texas H.E.A.T. (Help End Auto Theft) is a voluntary statewide vehicle registration program designed as a theft deterrent. Vehicle owners can sign an agreement that their vehicles may be stopped between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. If peace officers observe the participating vehicle being driven anywhere in Texas during those hours, they may stop the vehicle and verify ownership. Owners can grant additional authority at the time of registration to have their vehicle stopped any time of the day it is being driven from Texas into Mexico.
Prevention Tips to help keep your vehicle safe:
Take you keys
Hide your belongings
(prior to your arrival location)
Lock your doors
Never hide a second set of keys in your car
Park your car in a well lit area
Dont leave valuables in plain view
Never leave your car running
Consider VIN Etching .
It is a safe and effective way to protect your vehicle from being stolen. The main reason a thief steals a car is to bring it to a chop shop and strip all the parts of the vehicle. The principal behind having your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etched into the glass is to make those parts worthless and traceable. So when a thief approaches your vehicle, statistics show the the thief will pass it, and go on to the one that has not been etched.
