We consider our Reserves to be a valuable and important asset for both the department and the community we serve. The Grand Prairie Police Department will consider reserve applicants on a case by case basis only.

Reserve officers are required to be licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education (TCLEOSE). Visit www.tcleose.state.tx.us for information.

Reserves are required to volunteer 16 hours per month (192 per year). They perform the same duties as regular, full-time sworn police officers. In addition, reserve officers are required to work high school sporting events, parades (special events) and be available for emergency call outs.

Reserve officers wear exactly the same uniforms as regular sworn police officers. Equipment and uniforms (including sidearm) are provided by the department with the exception of footwear.

Reserve officers who are not already commissioned by the State of Texas attend evening and weekend classes at local police academies for state required training. These courses are typically offered once or twice a year.
