Tips for Keeping Your Pets Safe on July 4th
Posted Date: 7/3/2013

With so many dogs and cats frightened by fireworks, July 5th can be the busiest day for animal shelters nationwide. Pets escape their homes trying to escape the loud noises, and some animals put themselves in harmful situations by attempting to scare off these perceived threats.

The following tips can help you keep your pets safe on Independence Day:

  • Do not bring your pets to firework displays.
  • Ensure that your pets are safely and securely contained inside your home on the evening of July 4th and those nights leading up to and following it when neighbors may still be setting off fireworks.
  • Try to drown out the startling noises by using "white noise" like fans or soothing noises/music.
  • Make sure your pet is wearing ID tags and is microchipped in case they do escape.
