GRAND PRAIRIE—The city of Grand Prairie and community partners introduce "Get Fit Grand Prairie" – a new citywide wellness initiative connecting residents to local resources for improving health through physical fitness and healthy food options, especially for kids. The new program features a website, www.gptx.org/GetFitGP, with tools, tips and community resources for residents to get up, get out and get fit. To kick off the program and to celebrate January as Healthy Resolutions Month, Get Fit GP is offering residents a coupon for a free day pass to any city recreation center in January.
"With our lakes, parks and trails, our award-winning recreation venues and programming, farmers market, health clinics, community gardens and libraries – Grand Prairie offers more healthy lifestyle opportunities than residents realize," Mayor Ron Jensen said. "Get Fit GP is designed to tie together all our resources with one website – connecting people to resources to get fit and stay fit."
The website highlights certain topics each month, encouraging residents to participate in activities hosted by the city and its partners. Current partners include American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Baylor Medical Center at Irving, CareNow, GPISD, Medical Center of Arlington, Methodist Mansfield Medical Center, Novo Nordisk, Parkland, United Healthcare, Sam’s Club and the YMCA.
