City of Grand Prairie's Utility Services is teaming up again with Grand Prairie United Charities to raise money for water customers in need of temporary assistance with their water bill. During the "Helping Hands" pledge drive May 1-31, 2014, Utility Customer Service staff will ask customers to consider adding a $1 per month pledge to their water bill.
Last year the team brought in $1,138 new commitments and $1,534 in cash donations during the funds drive in May.
The city's goal is to help hundreds of Grand Prairie families keep their water on each year. Grand Prairie United Charities will screen all applicants for assistance eligibility, and provide free financial management classes for all who are selected for the water bill assistance program.
To make a donation, Grand Prairie water customers can call 972-237-4563, or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, including name, address, monthly donation amount and a call-back number. Donations – either monthly pledges or one-time contributions – will also be accepted at the Customer Service Office at 317 College St., Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Grand Prairie United Charities was founded in 1955 to meet the emergency needs of Grand Prairie residents who are experiencing financial setbacks. The organization believes that prompt intervention in the form of emergency assistance can ward off a potential crisis and prevent the family or individual from being without shelter, food or utilities.
