Offering convenient access to Main Street businesses, Downtown Grand Prairie is located less than 5 miles from I-30, SH 360 and SH 161 and just minutes away from Grand Prairie's entertainment district. Residents and visitors discover and enjoy fun shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities as the downtown area moves forward with new business venues like Market Square while also revitalizing pieces of the past like the Uptown Theater.

Recent Downtown Investments:

  • Marketing’s Branding Survey stating the community’s desire for an improved, vibrant downtown.
  • City Council’s commitment to downtown.
  • The historic Uptown Theater’s $5.5 million renovation.
  • Sidewalk and streetscaping improvements.
  • Construction of Market Square, home of the Grand Prairie Farmers Market.
  • Acquisition of 121 & 125 E. Main Street.
  • Acquisition of parking lot.
  • Parking and sidewalk design, Phase I.
  • Acquisition of Army/Navy store and gas station, will be the new home to the Dallas County Sub-courthouse.
  • Quiet Zones at train crossings.

In Progress:

  • Working with architects on a façade program for Main Street, Phase I.
  • Meeting with building owners and tenants.
  • Marketing and promoting Main Street businesses.
  • Main Street Web site and branding program.
  • Coordinating and promoting Main Street events with Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Working with various City departments to clean up downtown.
  • Re-directing “thru” tractor trailers from Main Street to Jefferson.

What’s to Come:

  • Phase I of the building façade program.
  • Beautification and continued improvement efforts for downtown.
  • Year round Farmers Market (open February – December).
