Adult Summer Reading Club

The Grand Prairie Libraries have summer reading programs for all ages, including adults.

As they read throughout the summer, adults can be entered into a weekly drawing for a tote bag, and into the Grand Prize drawing at the end of the summer for a Target gift card.

Pick up your reading log at the Circulation Desk of any branch, starting Monday, June 10. After you've read 5 books, turn your log back in, and it becomes your raffle ticket for the drawings.

The Libraries offer free programs during the summer. Here are some upcoming events:

Monday, June 10 at 7 pm: The Life of King Tut. Presented by Rollin Phipps, in conjunction with the traveling exhibition "Treasures of Tutankamun". The exhibit will be on display during the month of June. Main Library.

Tuesday, June 18 from 11 am to 2 pm: Community Office Hours. Staff from Congressman Marc Veasey's office will be on hand to answer your questions about Medicare, Social Security, Veterans benefits, the IRS and passports. Main Library.

Tuesday, June 18 at 7 pm: Egyptian Jewelry. One of the great abilities of the Egyptians was the creation of beautiful jewelry. This program will include a display of ancient rings, necklaces, and bracelets which date back to 1000 BC. The program will discuss the skill and technique involved in the production of jewelry as well as the artistry of the items. Warmack Branch.

Sunday, June 30 at 2 pm: Movie. Stars Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln. Also stars Sally Fields. Main Library.

Sunday, July 14 at 2 pm: Movie. This movie based on the long-running Broadway musical stars Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe. Main Library.

Saturday, July 20 from 9 am to 5 pm: Clearance Book Sale. The Friends of the Library hold a one-day sale where everything's a quarter! Main Library.
