The Library's collection extends beyond the shelves to include downloadable books, audiobooks, databases, and other online tools.

All of these services are free to Grand Prairie Library cardholders. Library cards are free to residents and non-residents alike, and available at any Grand Prairie Library. You may need to set up an account, and may be prompted for your library card number on your first visit.

Some services require two logins - one for the library's collection, and one for the reader used to view the material.


Britannica Smartmath

SmartMath makes math practice fun for kids K-8. A colorful, easy-to-use interface encourages and motivates kids to improve. Quizzes range from simple numbers, to geometry, algebra, and probability.

World Vital Records

World Vital Records

Search over 5 billion Family History and Genealogy records, and 28 million family trees. Access key collections: U.S. Federal Census images and indexes from 1790 to 1940; military records; 1 million newspaper pages; unique, exclusive local and world collections

Ancestry is a popular genealogy database. This database must be used at one of the Libraries - ask a Reference Librarian for assistance.



Encyclopedia Britannica

The world-renowned reference source Encyclopedia Britannica is now available to our patrons online. It features other tools as well, including a dictionary, atlas, year in review, and directory of quotations.

            Learning Express                    

Learning Express is your source for free practice tests and skill improvement. Practice for the GED, real estate or nursing exams, improve your math, computer, reading, or writing skills, and much more. Learning Express also has dozens of eBooks available read online.

Novelist is a fiction database that provides subject heading access, reviews, annotations, and much more for over 125,000 fiction titles. It also includes other content of interest to fiction readers, such as Author Read-alikes, What We’re Reading, Book Discussion Guides, BookTalks, and Annotated Book Lists. NoveList allows readers to use a favorite author or title as a template to locate other authors and titles of interest.

eBooks from Ebsco

Ebsco eBooks, from the Texshare Databases of the Texas State Library. Call 972-237-5701 for the login and password to the Texshare Databases. Once you've logged in, scroll down the list of databases to Ebsco eBooks. eBooks are mainly nonfiction, with many business and career titles.
