The city’s Outdoor Warning Siren System may be activated for various types of emergencies – not just severe weather. Outdoor warning sirens are not intended to be heard indoors.
Grand Prairie’s Outdoor Warning Siren System consists of 26 strategically placed sirens that are activated for one or more of the following conditions:

Radio: To receive emergency notifications indoors, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) All Hazards and Weather Alert Radio with the Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) feature is recommended. The NOAA radio allows you to keep up to date on all types of emergencies. You can purchase one at many local retailers starting at $20. NOAA radios with the SAME feature can be programmed to provide emergency information specific to your area.
