Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Grand Prairie Library, Inc. (FGPL) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the Grand Prairie Libraries' educational, cultural and outreach programs. Our membership works with library staff to define their volunteer, special program, and financial needs. We fund library programs and activities that may be over and above the city's library budget.
Our fundraising activities include regular book sales through out the year. We also sell canvas tote-bags year-round (available at the Main Library's Circulation desk).
90 % of the books in our Book Sales are donated by citizens, and 10% are withdrawn from the Libraries.
Donations
We accept the following items for our sales:
- Hardback and paperback books
- Audiobooks (books on CDs)
- CDs
- DVDs
- Jigsaw puzzles
- Records (33, 45 or 78 rpm)
- Maps
Please, no donations of video cassettes (VHS), magazines, cassette tapes, 8-track tapes, Reader's Digest Condensed books, encyclopedias, or textbooks, as there is not enough demand for these items.
Donations may be dropped off at any branch, or contact the Friends of the Library at 972-262-0101 to arrange a pick up.
Your donations are tax deductible; however, we cannot give you a valuation on your donation.

Ways to support the Friends:
- Host meetings & special events: Help with food, decorations, and cleanup at our meeting, usually held at the Main Library.
- Book pick up: We occasionally receive requests to pick up book donations from a home or business. A truck or van is useful, but not necessary. For larger donations, help is available.
- Book sorting: We price and sort the donations we receive year round. We meet regularly at the Main Library.
- Research book prices on the internet: Access to a computer is a must. The Main Library has numerous computer available for use, as long as patrons are not waiting. We can train either a computer novice, or the more experienced user. Cases of books can be checked out from the work area if you prefer to work at your home computer.
- Donate use of truck/trailer/van to move books: Before and after sales, we move books back and forth to storage. Other times, assistance may be required for donation pickups.
- Keep our files updated: We continually update our membership database, to find the volunteer skills we need and maintain an up-to-date mailing list
