Water Wells

A Water Well Permit is required to drill or abandon any well drilled or abandoned for any reason. City Council must approve all applications for drilling in the Paluxy or Trinity Aquifers.

Step 1.Review Requirements

The Water Well Permit application requires submitting the following information:

  • Name and state license number if a contractor will perform the work
  • Well owner information
  • Well information including address, number of wells, well depth, purpose, soil type, date of well installation or abandonment
  • A map showing locations of wells

Other requirements include:

  • Meeting minimum separation distances for on-site sewage facilities as required by Chapter 285 of the Texas Health and Safety Code.
  • Providing all analytical data and reports upon request.

Step 2.Apply

Fill out the Water Well Permit Application(PDF, 40KB) and submit in person to the Public Health and Environmental Quality Department.

$100.00 Non-Residential Well on private property
$500.00 Non-Residential Well on city property
Fees Waived Local, State, Federal Agencies, and their contractors

Pay fee in person to the Public Health and Environmental Quality Department.

What happens next?

After completing the online application, allow 5 business days for processing applications.

Upon completion of the installation of a well, the well driller must submit a copy of the State Well Report within 60 days or upon completion of capping a well. A copy of the State Texas Plugging Report must be submitted within 30 days.
