Due to the extreme heat, the City of Grand Prairie has set up cooling centers at various locations.
The creation of the Grand Prairie Crime Control and Prevention District was approved by voters on May 12, 2007 and is funded by a ¼ cent sales tax. The District funds police personnel, crime prevention programs, administration and capital expenditures.
The board is made up of 7 members, appointed by the City Council. Members have two-year terms.
