Grand Prairie Breaks Ground on New Affordable Housing Development

The City of Grand Prairie, in collaboration with Dallas County, the Grand Prairie Community Housing Development Organization, Hope 4 All, and the Housing Channel, celebrated the groundbreaking Thursday, October 24, of the Alice Court affordable housing development located south of downtown Grand Prairie. This new development is made possible through a blend of County and Federal funding and aims to provide low-to-moderate-income families in Grand Prairie accessibility to homeownership.
Scheduled for completion in late 2025, the development will feature 10 lots with modern, three-bedroom, two-bath, two-car garage homes. Located conveniently in the heart of Grand Prairie, Alice Court will offer residents easy access to excellent schools and community services.
“This development is dear to my heart as we have been working hard on this shared vision to bring more affordable and achievable housing options to our residents in Grand Prairie,” said City Manager Bill Hills in his opening remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony.
Individuals earning less than 80% of the median income in Grand Prairie will have the opportunity to purchase one of these high-quality homes at an affordable price. For example, with a median income of approximately $76,000 in Grand Prairie, a family earning less than $60,800 (80% of $76,000) could qualify. (source: census.gov)
Mayor Ron Jensen also emphasized the importance of Alice Court in addressing the city’s housing needs. “Access to affordable housing is essential for a thriving community,” Jensen said. “Alice Court not only addresses a critical need but also represents a significant investment in the future of Grand Prairie.”
The ceremony was attended by local officials and community partners, including Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Elba Garcia, who also shared remarks celebrating the joint effort and community impact. “I’m delighted to be part of this partnership with the City of Grand Prairie to help our hard-working families achieve the American dream of homeownership,” said Dr. Elba Garcia, Dallas County Commissioner for District 4. “Alice Court is a model example of how local governments can work together to provide quality, affordable housing solutions for our communities.”
