Water Advisory Lifted

Thank you for your patience as we work to restore your water service. We are ready to begin the water-flushing phase (or water-clearing process).

To avoid a boiling water activation, it is crucial that we carry out this phase by zones: Zone 1(JPG, 190KB)(9 p.m.), Zone 2(JPG, 198KB)(10 p.m.), and Zone 3(JPG, 192KB)(11 p.m.). Please see attached maps to locate your zone and the time to begin flushing.

If you miss your scheduled time, please begin flushing as soon as possible afterward.

PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR WATER UNTIL AFTER FLUSHING.

WATER FLUSHING TIPS: Now that the no-water-use restriction has been lifted, the City recommends the following water flushing steps to ensure optimal water quality. The purpose of flushing is to refresh the water supply. For questions call 972-237-8400. RESIDENTIAL Flush hot water taps: Open all hot water fixtures, including sinks, showers, and bathtubs, and run them for 15 minutes. Flush cold water taps: Flush each faucet for five minutes. If you notice anything unusual in your water, repeat the first two steps. FLUSH EQUIPMENT It’s also recommended to flush additional appliances like ice makers, dish washers, refrigerators with water dispensers, water filtration systems and humidifiers, and toilets. COMMERCIAL After water contamination, commercial building water systems should be flushed to ensure optimal water quality. Here are some tips for flushing a building’s water system: Flush time: Flush each water fixture for at least 5 minutes. Flush order: Flush the cold-water lines first, then the hot-water lines. Flush points: Flush all outlets, including faucets, showerheads, toilets, and hose bibs. Remove aerators when possible. Flush equipment: Empty, flush, and refill all water-storing equipment and appliances, including water heaters, water softeners, water filtration systems, boilers, ice machines, humidifiers, cooling towers, toilets, and drinking fountains.

Approximately 637,000 water bottles have handed out to Grand Prairie residents in need of clean water during the water advisory announced Tuesday night.

Thank you to all the volunteers who worked shifts around the clock getting water to as many people as possible as quickly as possible.

Thank you to businesses and organizations from around the state who brought water to Lone Star Park to ensure we have enough to go around.

Bottled water will continue to be made available at Lone Star Park, 1000 Lone Star Pkwy, Grand Prairie, TX 75050.

UPDATED 08:40 a.m. Thursday September 5:

The City remains under a no-use water restriction for residents in the impacted area(PNG, 931KB). Water distribution is ongoing at Lone Star Park, and shower and water fountain access is available at several city facilities.

The City’s aviation director is en route to a testing lab in Corpus Christi with the latest water samples. We hope to receive the results by late this afternoon.

The safety of our residents is our top priority, and we sincerely appreciate your patience as we continue to collaborate with the TCEQ to restore the water supply.

UPDATED 5:15 p.m. Wednesday September 4:

Due to the ongoing water advisory in parts of Grand Prairie, The Epic and The Summit (for those ages 50+) are opening their doors to the community. Impacted residents will have free shower and water fountain access.

*Water distribution will continue at Lone Star Park overnight and continue tomorrow.

LIVE NOW: Mayor Ron Jensen addresses the ongoing water advisory affecting Grand Prairie residents in the impacted area.

UPDATED 1:50 p.m. Wednesday September 4:

The City of Grand Prairie has not received any reports of serious adverse medical concerns from area residents stemming from the water advisory first reported Tuesday night, according to mayor Ron Jensen.

Please be advised that the advisory remains in place until further notice. Residents in the area indicated on this map(PNG, 931KB) should not use tap water for any purpose other than flushing.

We advise residents DO NOT TRY AND TREAT THE WATER YOURSELF. 

Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine or other disinfectants, or letting water stand will not make the water safe to use until further notice.

More shipments of bottled water are arriving at Lone Star Park and more are on the way.

We are working with partner organizations and businesses to boost our supply of bottled water available for pickup at Lone Star Park.

GPISD posted to Facebook: Out of an abundance of caution, GPISD will be closed Wednesday, September 4, 2024, due to the ongoing water issue in the city. All morning extracurricular activities are cancelled as well. We will resume our regular schedule on Thursday.

WATER ADVISORY: Do not use water north of I20 until further notice

The City of Grand Prairie has detected a foaming agent in the water supply north of I20. Crews are currently investigating the issue and working to isolate the affected area. If you live north of I20 in Grand Prairie, please avoid using water other than for flushing until further notice.

The City will have bottled water distribution stations. Please check gptx.org frequently for specific water pickup locations.
