The Grand Prairie Libraries are adding 2 mobile libraries for library services, programs and outreach on-the-go! Each mobile unit will have close to 1700 books (in both English and Spanish), DVDs and audiobooks for all ages to check out. An electric lift at each unit means they are fully accessible.
In addition, each will have laptops and a printer for internet access, email, scanning and printing. Wifi will be available on board, and in the immediate area around the stop. One mobile unit will visit scheduled stops across Grand Prairie during the week. The other one will represent the library at community events around town.
Expanding library service through mobile libraries has been a dream for 12 years. Once approved by City Council, a collaborative effort between the Library and the City's Fleet Services and IT Department made the vision a reality. 2 mobile units were built to precise specifications, and equipped with the technology to bring them online, making internet access, wifi and circulation possible.
The mobile libraries have been customized with a unique mural wrap, devised by Library Outreach Supervisor Victoria Guerra. Look for them at city events and around town. And stop in to say hello!
